Attic Conversion, Johnston
The client purchased this property in almost original condition, the previous owners having lived at the property since it was built. Our clients had to refurbish throughout before moving in. This included new wood flooring, doors, reviewing the central heating system and complete re decoration. Having lived in the house for a few months, they then decided they needed more bedroom space and the attic seemed the logical place to extend.
We carried out a Measured Building Survey which revealed that the headroom was reasonable but the usable floor space was restricted by the hipped roof. The design solution was to build up the two gable walls and use attic trusses rather than a traditional cut timber roof. By adding dormer windows, views of the surrounding countryside could be gained.
