Replacement Dwelling, Sandy Haven Pill, St Ishmaels
This house in St Ishmaels had at one time been a Public House. Since becoming residential it had lost any connection to its past. It had been extended both up and to the side and rear. The first floor was partially built off the rock. Being timber frame, it had extensive wet-rot.
Our clients wanted to improve the accommodation and redesign the internal layout. The rotten timber needed replacing. After a careful assessment of this building in St Ishmaels we decided it would be better to demolish and start again.
The existing house in St Ishmaels gave the appearance of two cottages which was retained in the new scheme. Due to the cliff face there was no rear garden, so a raised platform was constructed to give views over Sandy Haven Pill.
The accommodation was arranged with bedrooms on the ground floor and a living area on the first floor, to create open plan living as well as letting in more light. This allowed the oak Pembrokeshire ‘A’ frames to be exposed, together with the purlins and structural posts.
